Career
Gary Shuchuk began his career as a hockey player on the University of Wisconsin team , for which he was active from 1986 to 1990. During this period he was selected in the 1988 NHL Supplemental Draft as the 22nd player by the Detroit Red Wings , for which he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1990/91 season , where he had three scorer points in a total of nine games in his rookie year , including a goal, scored. The rest of the time in the Detroit Red Wings franchise he spent, however, with their farm team , the Adirondack Red Wings from the American Hockey League , with whom he won the Calder Cup in the 1991/92 season .
On January 29, 1993, Shuchuk was given to the Los Angeles Kings together with Jimmy Carson and Marc Potvin in exchange for Paul Coffey , Sylvain Couturier and Jim Hiller , with whom he reached the Stanley Cup finals at the end of the season , in which he and his team defeated the record winner Montréal Canadiens . After three more years in Los Angeles, the attacker played exclusively for the Houston Eros in the AHL in the 1996/97 season . The Canadian then went to Europe for the first time, where he received a contract in the Swiss National League A with newly promoted SC Herisau . He then spent a season at EC KAC from the Austrian Ice Hockey League , before returning to North America for the 1999/2000 season, where he played for the Orlando Solar Bears in the International Hockey League .
In the summer of 2000 Shuchuk was obliged by the Düsseldorfer EG , which had been promoted to the German ice hockey league in the previous season. After only one year, the former NHL player moved to their league rivals Krefeld Pinguine , with whom he was captain of the German championship in the 2002/03 season . He then signed with the AHL team Springfield Falcons , where he ended his career after a season as player-coach in 2004.
