Career

Private life

Gem Archer was born in 1966 in Hunwick into a working class family. He has been called Gem for short since he was a child , after the famous Scottish football player from the 1970s named Archie Gemmill . Today he is married to his wife Louise and has two children, son Joel and daughter Libby. Archer is a vegetarian.

Musical beginnings

He picked up his first guitar at the age of 12. He has been musically active since the mid-1980s and began his career as a guitarist with the local band Whirlpool . After their dissolution in the early 1990s, he founded the rock band Heavy Stereo , which was eventually signed by Creation Records . Her debut and only album Déjà Voodoo from 1996 achieved little commercial importance. More important was their participation in the 1999 Tribute - Sampler Fire and Skill: The Songs of The Jam , which also Noel and Liam Gallagher made their contribution. Because of this knotted acquaintance with Paul Weller , former The Jam frontman, were Heavy Stereo finally as opening act invited to the 1999's tour.

Oasis

Archer has always been a big fan of the Britpop band Oasis, whom he got to know privately through Creation Records . After founding members Paul "Bonehead" Arthur and Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan left Oasis in 1999, he joined the band as second guitarist with bassist Andy Bell . Heavy stereo dissolved in the course of this. The recordings for Standing on the Shoulder of Giants had already been completed, so that he was initially only active as a live guitarist and in the videos. For the band's fifth album, Heathen Chemistry , he contributed the song Hung in a Bad Place , which was an integral part of the band's playlist on the 2002 world tour. Mainly Archer played the rhythm guitar at Oasis concerts . In songs in which Noel took over the vocal part, however, he finally appeared as lead guitarist . Vocally, Archer was rarely used, but he was often compared to Bruce Springsteen .
