Walter, a 24-year-old wrestler, leaves his national team in Iowa to travel back to his hometown to support his mother, Gloria, and niece, who are still mourning the murder of Walter's twin sister, Annie. When he visits the therapist with his mother, Walter meets the widow Linda, whose alcoholic husband was murdered by his friend in a bar. Clay, Linda's deaf and mute son, misses his father and suppresses his aggression against his father's murderer. Linda works at the Southside Community Center, where she organizes weddings for people in need. Walter and Linda become friends during the court hearings and Walter invites Clay to a local wrestling training session. While waiting for the judge's verdict, Walter and Linda start an affair with each other.
