Gemini Air Cargo was an American cargo airline based in Dulles , ( Virginia ) until its bankruptcy in August 2008 . It had a worldwide network of cargo line flights and wet-lease charter flights . Their hubs operational Gemini Air Cargo at the Miami International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport of New York .
history
The airline was founded in December 1995 and started its own flights on October 24, 1996. The cargo flights were carried out in the first year with three aircraft leased by Sun Country Airlines , until in October 1996 they were given permission to operate their own aircraft. In July 1999, William E. Conway Jr., CEO of the Carlyle Group , bought the airline. The Carlyle Group now only holds 56%, other shareholders are the investment bank Lehman Brothers (36%), the management with 5% and Oak Tree Capital (3%). Gemini Air Cargo employed 412 people in January 2005. After its bankruptcy, Gemini Air Cargo was bought by Gemini Worldwide Holdings LLC in December 2008. The planned resumption of flight operations in June 2009 was not implemented.
