Gene Bervoets
Eugène Joanna Alfons Bervoets (born March 26, 1956 in Antwerp ), called Gene (Gène) Bervoets, is a Belgian actor who has appeared in more than 60 films since 1979. Bervoets became known through the television series Windkracht 10 and the film SM Richter . He also moderated the culinary program Gentsee Waterzooi .
education
Bervoets studied at the Antwerp "Studio Herman Teirlinck ". In 1980 he received his diploma.
Professional development
In the early 1980s Bervoets founded the punk bank "The Plastics Bags", where he was responsible for the vocals .
From 1986 to 1990 he was a member and leader of the theater group "Het Theater van de Derde Wereld in Europa" (translated: "The theater of the third world in Europe"), which was also known as "Tiedrie" or "TIE3". He took over the direction from the Flemish playwright and director Tone Brulin . Under his leadership, Bervoets and his ensemble addressed the problems of the Fourth World and changed the language of the theater. In 1987 they were invited to the first theater festival in Antwerp with the play "Ali, de 1001 nachtmerrie". In the late 1980s, the group performed at major European festivals. In the early 1990s, Bervoets handed over management to Ward Rooze .
He was also involved in almost all of the radio plays in the series “Heerlijke Hoorspelen fan Het Geliudshuis”. In 2012 he appeared in the musical " The Producers ".
Bervoets starred in numerous television series. His best-known role was that of Peter Segers in the Flemish series Windkracht 10 , which was broadcast from 1997 to 1998. From 2005 to 2009 he played the role of Bob Dewindt in the series "Kinderen van Dewindt".
As early as 1979 Bervoets was in the cinema for the first time with the film "A woman between dog and wolf" (original title: "Een Vrouw tussen Hond en Wolf"), in which he played a soldier. One of his greatest roles was that of Koen Allegaert in the film "SM Richter" (Original SM-Rechter).
Bervoets also starred in the short films "Dead Passion" (2012) and "Home Suite Home" (2015). He held smaller roles in 2015 in the film " The Admiral - Battle for Europe " about the Dutch admiral Michiel de Ruyter and in 2018 in the historical epic about the Frisian King Radbod " Path of the Warrior " (in the original: "Redbad"), both by the director Roel Reiné were staged.
In addition to his cinematic activities, Bervoets is also active on the Belgian radio station “Antwerpen FM”. He also took part in the popular music program "Het Swingpaleis".
Awards
In 2009 Bervoets was nominated for the Golden Calf in the “Best Actor” category. He received the Mira d'Or Lifetime Achievement Film Award in 2010. In 2015, he won the most important Flanders film award for the film “Paradise Trips” in the “Best Actor” category with the Ensor .
engagement
Since February 2013, Bervoets has been an ambassador for the non-profit association "Een hart voor ALS", which focuses on supporting and promoting scientific research into the nerve disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis .
Private life
From 1981 to 1985 Bervoets lived in Sint-Maarten in the Netherlands Antilles . He has been married to Flemish actress Tine Laureyns since 2001 and they have four children. His son Kaena Bervoets plays in the Antwerp rock band "Paper James".
