biography

Simard's skiing career began at the end of 1995 with participation in FIS races and in the Nor-Am Cup , later also in European Cup races. On November 19, 1998, she competed in the World Cup for the first time, at the giant slalom in Park City . In the 1998/99 season of the Nor-Am Cup, she won the slalom classification.

Simard scored World Cup points for the first time on November 21, 2001 with 15th place in the giant slalom at Copper Mountain . Ten days later, she caused a stir in the Super-G of Lake Louise when she was the last runner to start (starting number 63) and finished 11th. A few weeks later, on January 19, 2001, she again achieved a surprising third place in the giant slalom in Berchtesgaden with a high starting number (46). At the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City , she finished 7th in the combination .

The 2002/03 season was not quite as successful as the previous winter, the best result was a sixth place in the Super-G of Lake Louise. At the 2003 World Championships in St. Moritz , she narrowly missed the podium as fourth in the Super-G. On January 14, 2004, she achieved the only World Cup victory in the Super-G on the Tofana in Cortina d'Ampezzo .

In the winter of 2004/05, Simard finally established himself at the top of the world in giant slalom thanks to four top 10 placements. At the 2005 World Championships in Santa Caterina , she achieved eighth place in the giant slalom. In the seasons 2004/05 and 2005/06 she managed twice in a row to occupy the 5th place in the World Cup ranking of this discipline. During the entire 2007/08 season she was sidelined due to an injury. After that, she could no longer build on her previous performance and finally announced her resignation on January 21, 2010.
