Georg Alexander von Hippel

Georg Alexander von Hippel (born October 14, 1806 in Suwalken , † February 19, 1895 in Oldenburg ) was a Prussian major general and most recently commander of the 60th Infantry Regiment.

Life

His parents were the captain of the Landwehr and Herr auf Suwalken and Rhein, Georg Christoph von Hippel (* 1764 - 24 December 1813) and his wife Cölestine Aurora von Gossow from the Altgethen family († July 2, 1858).

Career

He came to Kulm as a cadet on July 10, 1816 and was transferred to Berlin as a cadet on January 2, 1821 . From there he came to the 31st Infantry Regiment on April 8, 1824 as a porterage ensign , where he was promoted to second lieutenant on June 12, 1826. From February 1, 1821 to January 31, 1835 he was transferred to the 31st Landwehr Regiment, where he was adjutant and accounting officer in the 1st Battalion in Erfurt . After his return he was posted to the General War School from October 15, 1836 to July 15, 1839 . After his return he was assigned to the 6th Artillery Brigade for one year on August 5, 1839. Promoted to Premier-Lieutenant on June 12, 1841, he was a company commander in the III. Battalion of the 31st Landwehr Regiment in Sangerhausen . He was then transferred from June 1, 1843 to March 31, 1846 in the topographical office of the Great General Staff . On April 26, 1848 he became a captain and company commander in the 31st Infantry Regiment, and in the same year he was also used in the street fighting in Erfurt. From November 16, 1850 to February 1, 1851 he was a company commander in the 31st Landwehr Regiment.

He rose to major on June 16, 1853, and was then commander of the 4th Combined Reserve Battalion on May 17, 1854; on June 16, 1855 he came as a commander in the 2nd Battalion of the 32nd Infantry Regiment . He then became commander in the 2nd Battalion of the 15th Infantry Regiment in Paderborn . There he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on May 13, 1859, and on May 8, 1860 he was posted to lead the 20th Combined Infantry Regiment. On July 1, 1860, he was then commander of the newly established 60th Infantry Regiment and promoted to colonel on October 18, 1861. On January 18, 1863, he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 3rd Class , and on January 8, 1864, he was aggregated into the 60th Infantry Regiment . On April 14, 1864, he was retired with regimental uniform and pension.

During the Franco-Prussian War , he was put up for retirement on July 18, 1870 and initially appointed as the commandant of the fortress garrison of Torgau. On November 6, 1870 he was then commander of the Magdeburg Landwehr Brigade. He was given the character of Major General on March 25, 1871 and was returned to the inactive relationship. He died on February 19, 1895 in Oldenburg.

Hippel married Marie Luise Adelaide Claude (born October 3, 1818 - January 9, 1902) in Berlin on October 12, 1846, a daughter of the Berlin businessman Jacques Louis Claude. The couple had two children:
