Georg Anton Christoph Scheffler
Georg Anton Christoph Scheffler (born October 21, 1762 in Wolfenbüttel , † February 21, 1825 in Braunschweig ) was a German educator.
Life
Georg Anton Christoph Scheffler attended the Ducal Great School in Wolfenbüttel and studied theology and philology at the University of Helmstedt since July 18, 1782 . After completing his academic studies as a Dr. phil. In 1785 he received the post of extraordinary teacher at the local pedagogy ; In 1786 he became a collaborator , which also made him custodian of the Helmstedt University Library .
In 1788 he came to the Anna-Sophianeum grammar school as vice-principal and stayed there until 1790, when he was transferred to the Ducal Great School in Wolfenbüttel. In 1801 he took over the management of the Martineum in Braunschweig as rector . During his time in office, the number of pupils increased again significantly after the institution was hardly visited at the beginning and was about to close. In February 1815 he was given lessons in Greek and Roman literature as a full professor at the Collegium Carolinum (from which the Technical University of Braunschweig later emerged). In 1821 he resigned as rector of the Martineum and took over the management of the Katharineum as the successor to Konrad Heusinger . After the death of Hofrat Johann Ferdinand Friedrich Emperius , he took his position as one of the directors of the Collegium Carolinum in 1822, and at Christmas 1823 he became a teacher of ancient literature there, for which he resigned as rector of the Katharineum.
