Georg Arndt (theologian)

Johann Georg Arndt (born July 19, 1863 in Mückenberg ; † January 11, 1939 in Wernigerode ) was a German Protestant theologian , honorary archivist and manager of the Society for Church History.

Life

Arndt was the son of pastor Leopold Arndt in Eisdorf and attended high school in Halle (Saale) . He then studied Protestant theology at the Universities of Halle , Leipzig and Erlangen . Then he attended the seminary in Wittenberg .

From 1889 Arndt was vicar , first at the Bodelschwinghschen Anstalt and then in Sachsenburg near Frankenberg / Sa. In 1891 Arndt became a deacon (second pastor) at the Moritzkirche in Halberstadt . There he was promoted to pastor in 1911. In 1912 he retired. During the past few years, Arndt has made outstanding contributions to the archives of Prince zu Stolberg-Wernigerode .

Arndt, who was always involved in church politics, took over the office of General Secretary of the Reich Office of the Evangelical Federation in Berlin in 1916 . In the same year he was also accepted as a member of the Academy of Non-Profit Science in Erfurt . He was also awarded the title “Dr. jur. hc ”.

Between 1933 and 1936 Arndt worked as a pastor in the Eggenstedt parish . Subsequently, he was brought into the consistory of the ecclesiastical province of Saxony in Magdeburg and entrusted with the patronage affairs department .

He died in Wernigerode, where he owned a villa at 14 Hornstrasse.
