Georg Conrad Jung (* 1612 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber ; † September 16, 1691 in Hoheim near Kitzingen) was a German printer , painter , engraver , geographer and cartographer . Together with his father Johann Georg Jung (* 1583; † after 1641) he published the first road map of Central Europe .

Life

He was born as the son of the cartographer Johann Georg Jung and the clothmaker's daughter Barbara Wolf. His father founded a cartographic workshop in Rothenburg ob der Tauber after he had acquired citizenship there in 1607. They worked together until his father's death in 1641 .

Together they published a hand-drawn map of the Würzburg Monastery in 1639 (scale 1: 300,000).

In 1641 they created the first cartographic road map of Germany in their studio Nobilissimis Amplissimis Consultissimis viris Dominis D. Consultbus, Totiquae Senatui inclytae Reipublicae Noribergensis Dedicabant John Georgius, et Georgius Conradus Jungii Rotenburgo Tubernj totius GERMANIA 1641 .

In the same year they completed the German travel map or Totius Germaniae Novum Itinerarium as a copper engraving 41.8 X 56.0 cm on a scale of 1: 2300000. The first comprehensive road map of Central Europe, covering Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Bohemia and provinces of France, Italy and Poland. '

For further training in contemporary geography, Georg Conrad Jung went to the Collegium of the University of Würzburg (today: Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg ). There he discussed with Würzburg patricians and intellectuals. He remained connected to the college for many years and in 1669 carried out the cartographic work for the entire province of Würzburg.

In 1673 Jung creates the Newe Description Des Hertzogthumb zu Francken Sambt Andern Daran bishop and Furstenhumben, Graff, and Freyen Herrschafften zu Sonderbahren honors presented by Georg Conrad Junge Hohheim at Kitzing Ad. 1673 (size 47.4 to 65.0 cm, scale 1: 235,000).

With Georg Christoph Eimmart , the cartographer published Tabula Nova Circuli Franconici in 1690 , cum omnibus suis limitibus from Anno 38. huiusd. Seculi Constructa, 3rd post annis / evulgata per Ioh. George. et Georg. Conr. Iungios, fratres ... Latiori fronte in partes quatuor divisa, recenter edita et aucta per GC E 1690.

In 1692 he published with Wolfgang Moritz Endter (1653-1723) SR Imp. Circuli Franconici Geographica Delineatio in 64th tables. (Wolfgang Moritz Endter became known in the scientific community in Nuremberg when he and Johann Christoph Sturm published the work Mathesis Enucleata in 1689 ).
