Georg Endress
Georg H. Endress (born January 9, 1924 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † December 14, 2008 in Arlesheim , Switzerland ) was a German-Swiss entrepreneur specializing in measurement and control technology and the founder of Endress + Hauser .
Live and act
Endress was born the son of a factory manager. At a young age he moved with his family to Zagreb , where he started school. After attending secondary schools in Basel with high school diploma and an apprenticeship as a mechanic, he studied engineering in Zurich. He worked for several Swiss and one English companies before founding a sales company for level measuring devices with banker Ludwig Hauser in Lörrach in 1953 , from which Endress + Hauser AG later developed. Production of the company's first own measuring devices began as early as 1956. After success in Europe, subsidiaries were founded in the USA and in Japan (1970) and China (1980). In 1995 Georg Endress handed over the management of the company to his son Klaus.
Endress felt a special responsibility in the border triangle of Germany, France and Switzerland, where, according to his own admission, he wanted to take part in the removal of the country's mental barriers. He initiated the tri-national apprenticeship and engineers' training in the Upper Rhine, the cross-border study programs which promoted Cooperative Education Loerrach , the tri-national BioValley federation goes back to his initiative. In addition, he worked in the trade association for industrial companies in Baden (wvib) and the Black Forest-Upper Rhine regional society.
From 1946 Endress was married to Alice Endress Vogt (1919–2016); of the eight children, five were employed at Endress + Hauser AG at the end of 2008.

- The Upper Rhine University Prize Prix Bartholdi was awarded to Georg Endress posthumously in 2011.
- The DHBW Lörrach has named its auditorium after Georg Endress since 2015
