Georg Friedrich von Großmann

Georg Friedrich von Großmann (born March 6, 1807 in Dresden , † March 26, 1871 in Liegnitz ) was a royal Prussian lieutenant general and most recently in command of Altona and in command of the troops garrisoned in Hamburg.

origin

His parents were Georg Friedrich von Großmann (* June 15, 1768; † April 14, 1818) and his wife Christiane Friederike Müller (* October 21, 1777; † February 24, 1832). His father was a colonel in the 6th Artillery Brigade.

Life

He received his education at the Friedrichsgymnasium in Breslau . He then went on June 1, 1823 as a musketeer in the 11th Infantry Regiment. There he was promoted to Portepeefähnrich on December 15, 1835 and to Seconde-Lieutenant on June 14, 1826. From 1834 to 1837 he was then used as a battalion adjutant. He was then posted to the Cadet Institute in Wahlstatt for one year on November 17, 1837, and on April 19, 1838 he was appointed Premier-Lieutenant in the Cadet Corps. On March 30, 1844, he was transferred to the 24th Infantry Regiment as a captain and company commander. During the March Revolution he fought in the street fights in Dresden and Iserlohn . In the Baden Revolution he fought in the battles near Neudorf and Wiesenthal.

On July 20, 1850, he was promoted to major. From November 12, 1850 to December 15, 1850, he was posted to Frankfurt am Main as a railway stage commander. On February 1, 1851, he was transferred to the 24th Infantry Regiment as battalion commander. On January 18, 1853 he came to the 2nd Landwehr Regiment, where he was commander of the III. Battalion in Anklam , from there he came on July 14, 1857 as battalion commander in the 9th Infantry Regiment and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on October 15, 1856. On July 8, 1858, he was commissioned with the command of the 30th Infantry Regiment and placed à la suite of the regiment. On May 31, 1859, he was promoted to colonel and at the same time became commander of the regiment. He was awarded the 3rd Class Crown Order on October 18, 1861 . During the German War of 1866 he fought in the battles near Trautenau and Tobitschau, the Battle of Königgrätz and the enclosure of Olomouc. On September 20, 1866 he was awarded the star for the Order of the Red Eagle.

He came to Altona on January 14, 1868 as a commander and became commander of the troops garrisoned in Hamburg.
