Georg Hüssler
Prelate Georg Hüssler (born July 7, 1921 in Einöd ; † April 14, 2013 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a Roman Catholic priest and president of the German Caritas Association and Caritas Internationalis .
Life
Georg Hüssler was the son of an Alsatian father and a Baden mother, he grew up in Strasbourg . He initially studied medicine, but after his experience as a medical soldier in World War II, he began studying Catholic theology at the Collegium Germanicum in Rome in 1946 . He was ordained a priest on October 10, 1951 . After his doctorate , he was brought to Freiburg as an assistant by the then Caritas President Alois Eckert (1887–1976) in 1957 and thus began his work for the association, of which he was general secretary from 1959 to 1969 and its president from 1969 to 1991. In addition, from 1975 to 1983 he was also President of Caritas Internationalis in Rome, the umbrella organization of all Caritas associations. He was a member of the honorary council of AMCHA Germany , the central organization for psychosocial help for survivors of the Holocaust and their descendants in Israel .

He is particularly remembered and revered by the Igbo in Nigeria , who have not forgotten his help during and after the Biafra War .
