Georg Irmer

Georg Irmer (born November 3, 1853 in Dessau , † June 13, 1931 in Berlin ) was a German archivist, consul and historian.

Life

Irmer's parents were the businessman Leopold Irmer and his wife Leopoldine nee. Trankhorst . Irmer attended high school in Dessau. After graduating from high school in 1874, he studied philosophy and history at the Georg-August University of Göttingen and the Friedrichs University of Halle . In 1875 he became active in the Corps Normannia-Halle . As an inactive he moved to the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin . On November 14, 1877, he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD.

In the Prussian archives service since January 2, 1878, he came to the Hessian State Archives in Marburg as archives secretary on May 1, 1881 and to the Lower Saxony State Archives in 1885 . On July 1, 1892, he was appointed first class archivist.

On May 31, 1892 , he was drafted into the Foreign Service as an unskilled worker and moved to Division IV (Colonies). He was replaced on February 7, 1897 and, after a long vacation, was temporarily employed in the Foreign Office from September 24, 1897. In Dept. IV (Colonies) he headed Unit V (Protected Areas Cameroon and Marshall Islands, Political Affairs of West Africa). Since March 10, 1898 settled a laborer, he received on August 23, 1898 the character as Counselor . On March 18, 1899, he became an Acting Councilor of Legation and Lecturing Council . After he had passed the consular exam in September 1900, he was from October 15, 1900 to January 14, 1907 Consul General in Genoa . On May 21, 1907, he was transferred to Sydney as Consul General . On April 12, 1910, he went on a business trip. On vacation and sick leave since June 2, 1910, he was retired on February 20, 1911.
