Georg Julius Friedrich Knauer's father was Heinrich Ludwig Zacharias Knauer ; who worked as a goldsmith at the University of Göttingen . His son Georg Friedrich Wilhelm Knauer (1830–1905) later followed him into the profession.

Career

Georg Julius Friedrich Knauer took his citizenship oath as a jeweler in Hanover in 1816 and received the master's title there in the same year . In 1832 he was elected head of the goldsmith's office and held this position until 1848. From 1833 Knauer had the title of court jeweler, and from 1835 onwards he was named in the Hanover address books

With his "Associé" Wilhelm Lameyer , Knauer made the insignia of the Hanoverian crown between 1839 and 1844 (see Crown of the Kingdom of Hanover ).

The East Frisian landscape gave in 1843 to the then Crown Prince and later King George V for marriage a large silver centerpiece , the " Upstalsboom " (a feudal knights between trees) from the workshop of Knauer and Lameyer.

In 1845 his company Knauer & Comp. , which employed 12 people, was added to the list of manufacturers in the Kingdom of Hanover . In the same year, however, Knauer became the sole owner of the company, as Lameyer opened his own office building.
