Georg Lhotsky (2010)

Georg Lhotsky (also: Georg Lhotzky ; born February 6, 1937 in Troppau , Czechoslovakia ; † November 28, 2016 in Vienna ) was an Austrian actor, film director, screenwriter and producer.

Life

In 1944 Lhotsky had to flee from the Reichsgau Sudetenland to Austria, where he finally completed his acting studies in 1956. He then worked both as an actor and as a director at several Austrian and German theaters, such as the Theater in der Josefstadt , the New Theater in der Scala , the Deutsches Theater Berlin or the Städtische Bühnen Münster . From 1965 onwards, as a freelancer, he increasingly switched from the stage to television, where he worked in various formats. With his first feature film Moos auf den Steinen , he paved the way for the new Austrian film in 1968 thanks to his unusual camera work with alternating black and white and color images . This film, based on Gerhard Fritsch 's novel of the same name, is about two contradicting writers and their views on post-war Austria, as well as the fiancée of one who chooses the other. The film was invited to the Berlin International Film Festival in 1969 and was submitted as an Austrian entry for a nomination for “ best foreign language film ” at the 1970 Academy Awards , but was not nominated.

After that, Lhotsky only turned fiction and documentaries as well as series episodes for television. In 1983 he founded Lhotsky-Film together with Eva-Maria Stelljes and produced the TV series “Healing and Shamanism” and “Mysticism of the West”, as well as documentaries about the border areas of science and holistic healing topics .

From 1959 to 1974 Lhotsky was married to the actress and long-time director of the Vienna Volkstheater Emmy Werner , with whom he also had a son - the actor Alexander Lhotzky . In 1997 he married Eva-Maria Stelljes for the second time. He was a founding member and teaching trainer of the "Austrian Society for Group Dynamics and Group Pedagogy" and had a training analysis based on Freud .
