Georg Ludwig Hurtzig (born March 27, 1812 in Hanover ; † October 14, 1865 ibid) was a sculptor, teacher at the Polytechnic School in Hanover and gilder.

Georg Ludwig Hurtzig's parents were the clerk Heinrich Wilhelm Hurtzig (* 1771 in Neuenmarhorst, district of Twistringen ; † 1832 in Hanover) and Johanne Dorothee Louise, née Fahlenstieg from Lauenau .

His marriage to Marie Sophie Friederike Bähr († 1853) remained childless. In 1855 he married Marie Caroline Wilhelmine Pauline Uentze (* 1825 in Berlin), with whom he had four children.

Georg Hurtzig completed an apprenticeship in Munich with Ludwig Schwanthaler from November 1842 .

In 1848, together with the financial auditor Lahmeyer, he received a patent for a compound for the production of plastic objects.

In 1849, Hurtzig joined the Hanover Art Association .

On October 1, 1856, he became a teacher for bossing at the Polytechnic School in Hanover , and in the following year 1863 he was also the third teacher for freehand drawing. From February 26, 1864 to January 1, 1865 he worked as a third drawing teacher. Hermann Narten and his nephew Ferdinand Hartzer were among his students .

Around 1852 he carved the pulpit figures for the St. Dionysius Church in Adensen . Around 1853 he worked on the decoration of the Hanover theater.

He carved the altar for the Marktkirche in Hanover. In 1854 he designed the Bödeker angels for Hermann Wilhelm Bödeker , which were also imitated in Göttingen.

He also created a statue of Carl Maria von Weber on the balcony of the Hanover Opera House and a bronze bust for Heinrich Marschner's tomb . For the Royal Gardens he created the figures of Duke Otto the Child and Emperor Otto IV (1174–1218) on the park side .

The Hildesheim sculptor and professor Friedrich Küsthardt (1830–1900) criticized "Hurtzig ape Schwanthaler and be conceited".
