Georg Michael Klein

Georg Michael Klein (born April 9, 1776 in Alitzheim , † March 19, 1820 in Würzburg ) was a German Catholic clergyman, teacher , philosopher and university professor .

Life

Klein attended grammar school in Würzburg and then studied Catholic theology at the University of Würzburg . There he probably received his doctorate . He was first a secular priest and as such a chaplain in Karlstadt . In November 1804 he was employed as a professor at the Würzburg grammar school, and he was also rector of the grammar school. When the government of the Grand Duchy of Würzburg fell to Archduke Ferdinand under the auspices of the Peace of Pressburg in 1805 , under whose direction a clerical reaction developed in Würzburg, Klein was dismissed in this context in March 1806.

After his release, Klein used the time for educational trips to the Rhine and the Netherlands . Then he returned to Munich . There he met Maximilian von Montgelas , who was positively disposed towards him and in 1809 gave him a position as professor of the philosophical preparatory classes at the Bamberg Lyceum . In 1811 Klein was transferred to the Regensburg grammar school as professor and vice-principal . He later became the rector of the institution there. He then worked for three years as the principal student at the Gymnasium Münnerstadt .

In December 1818 Klein was the chair of philosophy at the University of Würzburg appointed . In this office he eventually died. His remarks on Schelling's philosophy were praised by Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling himself.

Klein is said to be the role model for the professor of philosophy in News of the latest fate of the dog Berganza from ETA Hoffmann .
