Georg Neemann
Georg Neemann (born November 7, 1917 in Höchst ; † February 6, 1993 in Neuss ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).
Life and work
After attending elementary school and completing secondary school, Neemann completed a commercial training in the jewelry industry. He then worked as an employee in the shipyard industry. He became a soldier in the Wehrmacht in 1933 , took part in the Second World War as a soldier from 1939 to 1945 and was most recently taken prisoner by the British.
After his return from captivity, Neemann joined the municipal administration of the city of Lengerich and in 1946 became head of the refugee and housing office. He then worked briefly in the metalworking industry. From 1948 to 1950 he was managing director of the Osnabrücker Zeitung .
Neemann joined ÖTV in 1946 and later switched to IG Metall . From 1950 to 1957 he was district secretary and from 1957 to 1963 district manager of IG Metall for Münster and East Westphalia . From 1963 to 1967 he was chairman of the DGB district of North Rhine-Westphalia . He was also a member of the DGB federal executive committee until 1975.
politics
During the time of the Weimar Republic Neemann joined the Socialist Workers' Youth (SAJ). After the National Socialists came to power, he was briefly arrested in 1935 for illegal activity for the SAJ. In 1946 he joined the SPD. Later he was elected chairman of the SPD district association Neuss-Stadt.
Neemann was a member of the German Bundestag from 1965 to 1972. In the fifth electoral term (1965-1969) he was drawn into parliament via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia. In the sixth electoral term (1969–1972) he represented the constituency of Düsseldorf-Mettmann II in the Bundestag .
Awards
Neemann was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class in 1968 .
