Georgschicht (entrepreneur, 1849)

Georg Shift , also Georg Shift the Younger , (born June 29, 1849 in Ringelshain , † December 14, 1913 in Vienna ) was an Austrian entrepreneur . He was the founder of a chemical factory in Leopoldau and owner of the shift villa .

Life

Georgschicht was born as the son of the entrepreneur of the same name (1820–1887) as one of nine children, one of his brothers was Johannschicht (1855–1908). Georgschicht studied civil engineering from 1869 to 1873 at the kk Polytechnisches Institut (until 1872) and at the Vienna University of Technology and passed the master builder examination. He initially worked in his parents' company, where he managed the new construction of the shift works in Obersedlitz (Střekov, Bohemia).

In 1883 he moved to Vienna, where he in the 10th district , the chemical plant Georg layer, Vienna founded. The company made crystal soda , which was then used as a laundry detergent. In 1884 he had the operation due to unfavorable water conditions after Leopoldau to move (to 1904 independent municipality), where he had a new factory built by 1892 and additionally caustic soda , bleaching powder , caustic essence, water glass and bluing produced. From 1900 onwards, the Shift Villa , an English-style villa with a sundial on the front of the building, was built there according to his plans . In 1910 he built a water glass oven to produce a raw material for the layered soap produced by his brothers in Bohemia . After the death of Georgschicht, the company - which should not be confused with Georgschicht AG, which had been absorbed by Unilever Austria - was continued by his sons Georg (1889–1959) and Richard (1880–1958).

In 2014 Georg -schicht-Platz in Vienna's 21st district of Floridsdorf was named after him. In addition, the shift path was named after him (before 1978) .
