Georg Schmohe

Georg Schmöhe (born February 16, 1939 in Gummersbach ) is a German conductor .

Schmöhe studied with Dean Dixon , Antonino Votto , Sergiu Celibidache , Franco Ferrara and Boris Blacher .

He was Kapellmeister at the opera houses in Bern , Essen , Wuppertal , Kiel and Düsseldorf . In 1974 he became general music director of the city of Bielefeld . He works as a guest conductor for numerous leading orchestras. From 1980 to 1983 he held the position of chief conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica Venezuela in Caracas . From 1989 to 1992 he was bound by a contract as the chief musical director of the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra , and in 1992 he was appointed general music director of the Kassel State Theater . Guest conductors have taken him to the Deutsche Oper Berlin , the Hamburg State Opera , the Leipzig Opera House and the Grand Opéra Paris, among others . From September 1st 1997 on, Georg Schmöhe directed the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra Innsbruck . On July 2, 2004, he conducted his last opera production in his role as chief conductor of the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck in the Großer Haus. From 2007 to 2013 Georg Schmöhe was chief conductor of the Munich Symphony Orchestra .

He currently lives in Göttingen with his wife Adelheid .
