Georg Schreiber (writer)
Georg Walther Adolf Schreiber (born June 12, 1922 in Wiener Neustadt ; † July 2, 2012 in Vienna ) was an Austrian writer and publicist . He was the brother of the historian and writer Hermann Schreiber .
Live and act
Georg Schreiber was born the son of a bookseller. He attended the Bundesgymnasium in Baden and from 1941 to 1945 did military service as a radio operator in the German Air Force .
From 1945 he studied classical philology , archeology and ancient history at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in 1948. phil. received his doctorate . From 1950 to 1954 he was a language teacher at private schools and from 1955 he was a high school professor for Latin and Greek at the Bundesgymnasium Vienna 18. In 1983 he retired.
In addition to teaching, he worked as a writer. He mainly wrote youth literature , historical novels and non-fiction books on historical topics.
Georg Schreiber was awarded the Austrian Youth Book Prize in 1955 and the Austrian State Prize in 1962 .
