Georg Steinbauer

Georg Albert Alexander Steinbauer (born December 30, 1864 in Würzburg , † July 24, 1949 in Heigenbrücken ) was a Bavarian major general .

Life

Georg Steinbauer was born as the son of the later Royal Bavarian Colonel Wolfgang Johann Steinbauer (1810-1880) and his wife Louise Johanna Franziska Scherer (1822-1908).

Georg Steinbauer joined the Cadet Corps at the age of 13 . After completing the cadet school, on August 5, 1882, he joined the 1st Infantry Regiment as a portage ensign.

After he had completed the training course at the war school as "qualified" from 1883 to 1884 , he received on April 7, 1884 the "certificate of maturity as an officer".

On March 24, 1885, he was promoted to second lieutenant and on April 3, 1892, under position à la suite of the regiment, he was appointed inspection officer in the cadet corps. In 1893 he was promoted to prime lieutenant and in 1899 to captain and company commander .

In 1900 he volunteered for the East Asian Expeditionary Corps to fight the Boxer Rebellion . From March 5, 1900 to October 24, 1901, Steinbauer took part in the East Asia expedition, where on March 8, the battle of Tschang-Tschöng-Ling broke out.

In 1907 he was promoted to major . In 1908 he became battalion commander in the 21st Infantry Regiment and in this position in 1911 was appointed lieutenant colonel . In 1912 he was transferred to the staff of the 20th Infantry Regiment and on December 17, 1913, he took command of the 9th Infantry Regiment "Wrede" as a colonel . From August 20, 1914 Steinbauer was deployed in the war. On October 30, 1914, he was injured by shrapnel near Zandvoorde (near Ostend ) . On December 17, 1914, he returned to the field and led the regiment, intermittently, until January 25, 1916.

A doctor's report in the war files on March 15, 1915 deals with the consequences of the injury suffered at the end of 1914, which severely impaired Steinbauer's management activities. On February 24, 1916 he was due to his violation with the statutory. Pension z. D. posed, "with permission to carry on the previous uniform with the appropriate badges".

As early as December 7, 1916, Steinbauer was deployed as city commander of Bucharest until April 7, 1917, when the mobilization provision for the protection of Bucharest was lifted. In the meantime, Steinbauer had been promoted to major general in January 1917.

On May 25, 1917, with effect from June 1, 1917, he was appointed commander of the 5th Infantry Brigade. On December 23, 1918 Steinbauer was relieved of his war use. Among other things, when he left in 1916 he was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Bavarian Order of Military Merit with Swords.

On July 8, 1899, Georg Steinbauer married Auguste Maria Helena Richter (1869–1924), the daughter of the later Senate President at the Reich Military Court Rudolph von Richter . Prince Regent Luitpold had given his marriage consent on June 11, 1899. The couple had two children.
