Georg Wildführ

Georg Wildführ (born August 30, 1904 in Linden ; † August 4, 1984 in Holzhausen near Leipzig ) was a German medical microbiologist and hygienist .

Career and work

Georg Wildführ was the son of a foreman in today Hannover belonging Linden born. After graduating from high school, he first studied architecture at the University of Hanover from 1923 to 1925 . From 1925 to 1931 he studied at the Universities of Berlin and Göttingen medicine . In 1931 he received his doctorate in Göttingen . The title of his dissertation is On Chorea Minor and Tic . At the Technical University of Dresden Wild Lead 1943 was studies on the issue of toxin production assets of Gasoedem bacilli in artificial media habilitation .

From 1945 to 1946 Wildführ was a professor in Dresden and from 1946 to 1947 a full professor of hygiene. He headed the hygiene institute in Jägerstr. In 1947 he moved to the University of Leipzig , where he was a full professor of hygiene and bacteriology at the medical faculty until 1970. He took over the Central Office for Hygiene (later the District Hygiene Institute ) in Leipzig as director from November 1947. Wildführ took over the newly established chair for medical microbiology and epidemiological protection at the University of Leipzig in 1958. In the same year he became director of the institute for medical microbiology and epidemiology. From 1964 to 1976 Wildführ held the chair for medical microbiology at the Academy for Medical Training in the GDR . He took over the chair for general and communal hygiene at the Hygiene Institute in 1970. From 1961 to 1965 Wildführ was Dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Leipzig. From 1970 to 1973 Wildführ was President of the Society for the Entire Hygiene of the GDR .

Wildführ's scientific topics were bacteriology , serology , epidemiology and hygiene. Another main topic was toxoplasmosis .

From 1945 Wildführ was a member of the KPD. With the forced unification of the SPD and KPD to form the SED , he first became a member of the SED , but left it in 1949 to switch to the Eastern CDU .

As early as 1947, Wildführ warned of the health risks of uranium mining, caused by dust, radioactive radiation and lead, by the SAG Wismut . However, his concerns were largely ignored by the political leadership.

Honors

Wildführ was honorary senator of the University of Leipzig and senior medical advisor . He received an honorary doctorate from Leipzig University in 1973. He also received the GDR National Prize in 1962 , the Rudolf Virchow Prize in 1961 and the Karl Marx University badge of honor in 1963 . In 1964 he became an Honored Doctor of the People .
