Georg Wolfgang Höfs

Georg Wolfgang Höfs (born February 13, 1913 in Wurzen ; † March 21, 1991 in Magdeburg ) was a German dermatologist . From 1963 to 1978 he worked as a professor of dermatology and venereology at the Medical Academy Magdeburg and was rector of the university from 1967 to 1970 .

Life

Wolfgang Höfs studied medicine in Leipzig and Berlin from 1932 to 1937 . He was then used as a military doctor until 1945 in World War II . From 1947 to 1951 Höfs worked as an assistant doctor at the University Dermatology Clinics in Jena under Josef Hämel (1894–1969) and Leipzig . In Jena he received his doctorate in 1948 with studies on failures in the treatment of gonorrhea with German penicillin . In 1959 he was Wolfgang Gertler (1904 to 1982) in Leipzig with a thesis on tissue therapy in dermatology habilitation . From 1959 Höfs spent a year doing research and teaching at the University of Hanoi in Vietnam . In 1963, Wolfgang Höfs was appointed professor and director of the dermatology clinic at the Magdeburg Medical Academy as the successor to Harry Braun , who moved to Leipzig . In 1966 he took over the role of Vice Rector , from 1967 to 1970 he was the fourth Rector of the university. In 1978 Höfs retired . His successor was Klaus Schlenzka.

Act

Georg Wolfgang Höfs has written numerous publications, book chapters and scientific lectures on occupational and children's skin diseases , on andrology and human genetics in dermatology, on tropical dermatology, on immunological and cytological questions in eczema and on the treatment of tropical skin diseases . Under the direction of Höfs, the dermatological clinic of the Medical Academy Magdeburg developed into a dermatological-scientific focus with supraregional importance. Höfs received numerous state honors, including in 1968 as Honored Physician of the People .
