Georges Chihane

Georges Chihane (born May 31, 1953 in Haret Sakhr ) is a Lebanese clergyman and Maronite bishop of Cairo .

Life

Georges Chihane studied at the University of St. Esprit and was ordained a priest on August 12, 1979 .

Pope Benedict XVI confirmed his appointment as Bishop of Cairo on June 16, 2012. The Maronite Patriarch of Antioch and the whole of the Orient , Béchara Pierre Raï OMM , ordained him episcopal on July 28 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Samir Mazloum , Curia Bishop emeritus in Antioch, Guy-Paul Noujaim , Curia Bishop emeritus in Joubbé, Sarba and Jounieh , Paul Youssef Matar , Archbishop of Beirut , Francis Némé Baïssari , Auxiliary Bishop emeritus in Joubbé and Joubbé, Sarah , Curia Bishop in Antioch, Joseph Mohsen Béchara , Old Archbishop of Antelien , Simon Atallah OAM, Bishop of Baalbek-Deir El-Ahmar , François Eid OMM, Procurator of the Maronite Patriarch at the Holy See , Edgar Amine São Madi , Bishop of Nossa Senhora do Líbano em Paulo , and Michel Aoun , Bishop of Jbeil .

On January 13, 2014, Pope Francis also appointed him Apostolic Visitator for the Maronite believers in the countries of North Africa outside his jurisdiction .
