Georges Marcel Émile Nicolas Perron OFMCap (born January 12, 1925 in Chemillé , Maine-et-Loire , France ) is Bishop Emeritus of Djibouti .

Life

Georges Perron joined the order of the Capuchins in 1944 , made perpetual profession on September 8, 1945 and was ordained a priest on June 29, 1951 . In January 1956 he was sent by his order as a missionary to Ethiopia , where he initially worked until 1970. After a sabbatical year in Paris, Perron returned to Ethiopia in 1971 and worked as a parish priest in Dire Dawa . During his time as pastor, the Ogaden War between Somalia and Ethiopia also fell in 1977, which also extended to the area of ​​Dire Dawa. After the age-related resignation of Urbain-Marie Person , he managed the Apostolic Vicariate Harar as Apostolic Administrator from 1982 to 1987 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Djibouti on November 21, 1992, after Perron had been Apostolic Administrator there since 1987. He was ordained episcopate on March 14, 1993 by the Bishop of Blois , Jean Cuminal ; Co- consecrators were Jean Orchampt , Bishop of Angers , and Giovanni Bernardo Gremoli OFMCap, Vicar Apostolic of Arabia .

On March 13, 2001, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation because of his age. Georges Perron has lived in France again since then.
