Georgios Papagiannis ( Greek Γεώργιος Παπαγιάννης , born July 3, 1997 ) is a Greek basketball player . He is 220 cm tall and plays on the position of the center .
Career
Papagiannis made his debut in the first team of GS Peristeri in the 2011/12 season when he made his debut on January 5, 2012, at the age of 14, in a game of the Greek Basketball League against Panathinaikos Athens . Up until the 2017/2018 season, he was the youngest professional player in the Greek basketball league since professional operations were introduced.
He played at the 2013 Jordan Brand Classic International Game.
Papagiannis announced in May 2013 that he would be transferring to Westtown School in West Chester, Pennsylvania . After high school, Papagiannis had many offers from college teams, including prestigious colleges such as Kentucky , Arizona and Connecticut , but he decided to return to Greece, where he played for Panathinaikos Athens from 2014-2016. During this period he was able to win the Greek club cup twice. At the same time he made his debut in the ULEB Euroleague , the most important of all European competitions. In the 2016 NBA draft , Papagiannis was selected in 13th place by the Phoenix Suns , but then swapped for the draft rights to Marquese Chriss for the Sacramento Kings . There he shared his position with DeMarcus Cousins , Willie Cauley-Stein and Kostas Koufos . In order to get more game practice, he was awarded several times in his rookie season for a few games to his own farm team, the Reno Bighorns . He completed one of his best games for this on January 25, 2017 when he contributed 23 points and 15 rebounds to the 129: 116 success over the Sioux Falls Skyforce . Papagiannis celebrated his first double-double for the Kings on March 18, 2017 in a 94: 110 defeat against the Oklahoma City Thunder , when he had finished the game with 14 points and 11 rebounds. In its first season, the center came to 22 appearances in the NBA. After 16 missions in the 2017/18 season, the Kings had released Papagiannis from his current contract.
National team
Papagiannis played with the Greek U-16 national team at the U-16 European Championship in 2012, as well as at the U-16 European Championship in 2013, where he won the bronze medal. In 2015 Papagiannis took part in the U19 World Championship and the U18 European Championship. At the U19 World Cup in Crete he reached fourth place and averaged 8.1 points and 7.7 rebounds in six games. At the U18 European Championship, which was also held in Greece a few weeks later, he won the gold medal after a 64:61 final victory over Turkey. Papagiannis finished the tournament with an average of 12.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per encounter. During the tournament he reached five double doubles and was chosen together with his teammate Vasilios Charalampopoulos in the best team.
