James Taft "Jimmer" Fredette (born February 25, 1989 in Glens Falls , New York ) is an American basketball player who became known through his college career at Brigham Young University . In 2011 he was the player with the most points in the top division of the University Sports Association NCAA . He was also honored with several “Player of the Year” awards, including the Wooden Award, the Naismith Award , the Adolph Rupp Trophy and the Oscar Robertson Trophy .

Childhood and college days

Fredette was born the youngest of three children. His parents are Al and Kay Fredette. His mother gave him the nickname "Jimmer". From childhood he showed an extraordinary enthusiasm for sports. Fredette is an avowed Mormon . He played from 2007 to 2011 for Brigham Young University in the state of Utah . The university is mostly attended by Mormons.

From his second year at BYU he was an unrestricted performer of the team and shone in particular with his offensive power, his good throw from distance and his good eye for his teammates. In a total of 139 games for the university team, Fredette averaged 18.7 points, prepared 3.7 basket successes for his mates and came up with 2.6 rebounds. In the 2010/11 season he led the first NCAA division with 28.9 points per encounter. Fredette's highest score was 52 points against the University of New Mexico in March 2011. With a total of 2599 points, he was on the first place of the all-time BYU best list until he was ousted by Tyler Haws in February 2015 . With 296 three-point throws hit, Fredette was also at the top of all BYU players when he left college in 2011.

Profile career

In the 2011 NBA Draft, Fredette was selected in tenth place by the Milwaukee Bucks , but shortly thereafter, after a previously concluded agreement, passed to the Sacramento Kings . After a few disappointing years with the Sacramento Kings, his club dismissed him in late February 2014. On March 2, 2014, Fredette signed a contract with the Chicago Bulls until the end of the 2013/14 season .

In July 2014, Fredette signed a contract with the New Orleans Pelicans . He was used in 50 games and scored 3.6 points on average. In July 2015, Fredette signed a contract with the San Antonio Spurs , which was dissolved in October 2015. Shortly thereafter, he was selected second in the D-League draft by the Westchester Knicks .

Due to the injury of Kendrick Perkins , Fredette was taken back to the squad for a few days in November 2015 by the Pelicans, but after a short time dismissed, which means he moved back to the D-League .

In August 2016, Fredette signed a contract with the Shanghai Sharks in China. In Shanghai he achieved outstanding offensive values ​​in his three years: in November 2018 he scored 75 points in one game. In the 2016/17 season he was the best basket scorer in the Chinese CBA with 37.6 points per game, in 2017/18 he was second on the basketball list with 36.9 points per game, and in the 2018/19 game year he scored an average of 35.5 points. In March 2019, Fredette switched back to the NBA and played six games (3.7 points / encounter) by the end of the 2018/19 season.

In mid-July 2019, Fredette was signed by the Greek top club Panathinaikos Athens .
