Nemanja Nedović ( Serbian - Cyrillic Немања Недовић ; born June 16, 1991 in Nova Varoš , SR Serbia ) is a Serbian basketball player . After stints in his home country and Lithuania , the Serbian international played briefly in the top-endowed professional league in the 2013/14 NBA . He then returned to Europe and has since played in the Spanish ACB league . Nedović has been playing for Panathinaikos Athens since 2020 .

Career

At the age of 17 Nedović made his debut in the men's team of Red Star in the highest Serbian division KLS and had his first two missions under the then club coach Svetislav Pešić . After the runner-up and a lost cup final in 2009 behind local rivals and serial champions KK Partizan Belgrade , there were no further successes in the following two years. Nedović was at the U-20 European Basketball Championships from 2009 to 2011 in the squad of the Serbian junior teams, but missed with his teammates up to a quarter-finals 2010 participation in front placements. In 2011, the 1991 group, who had become U-16 and 2009 U-18 European champions in 2007 without Nedović, only came in 13th with the third-best record of all teams, after losing twice in the preliminary round in the relegation round but had won all games. The basketball team of the highly indebted Red Star club was revitalized with the merger in 2011 with the previous team from FMP Železnik under the new president Nebojša Čović . Coach Pešić returned, but lost with the team the play-off final series in 2012 for the Serbian championship again against Partizan. At the European Championship qualification in the summer of 2012, Nedović made his debut in the Serbian men's selection , which qualified only very narrowly and unconvincingly for the finals in the following year.

After qualifying, Nedović left his home country and moved to the Lithuanian club Lietuvos rytas in Vilnius for the 2012/13 season . Nedović played with the Lithuanian runner-up in the highest-ranking European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2012/13 , in which they only just failed to make it into the round of the 16 best teams, among others, at the then German champion Brose Baskets , and in the supranational competition VTB United League 2012/13 , in which they narrowly missed the play-offs with a balanced balance. In the Lithuanian league LKL it was enough for another runner-up behind defending champion Žalgiris Kaunas , against whom they lost the final series without their own win in four games. After Nedović had already been selected in the first round in 30th position by the Phoenix Suns in the Entry Draft at the end of June 2013 of the highest endowed professional league NBA , he reached a seventh place with the Serbian men's team at the European Championship finals in 2013 , after being in Quarterfinals defending champion Spain was defeated. For the 2013/14 NBA , “First-Rounder” Nedović moved to the United States , where the Suns had already passed their rights on to the Golden State Warriors in California on the day of the draft . In the Warriors from Oakland , Nedović came to 24 missions averaging no more than six minutes per game and was never able to earn a permanent place in the squad, but was constantly given to the farm team from Santa Cruz . In the farm team in the NBA Development League (D-League) Nedović should get more match practice, but this was restricted by injuries. Nedović also missed entry into the NBA play-offs when the Warriors were eliminated in the first round, and was no longer used by the Santa Cruz Warriors when they lost the D-League final series for the second time in a row.

After the start of the NBA 2014/15 season , the Warriors released Nedović from his obligations in mid-November despite a guaranteed contract, who then moved to the Spanish ACB league for the club from Valencia . With the Eurocup title winner in 2014, Nedović played again in the 2014/15 Euroleague , in which, however, after only three wins in ten preliminary round games, they finished bottom of the group. Nevertheless, the team was allowed to continue playing in the Eurocup 2014/15 , where they defeated the then German champions FC Bayern Munich under coach Pešić twice in the quarterfinals . Then the Eurocup defending champion lost twice in the semifinals against the eventual title winner BK Chimki and also lost the semifinal series for the Spanish championship against the main round first and later Triple Crown winner Real Madrid . For the 2015 European Championship finals , Nedović was again appointed to the Serbian team by national coach Aleksandar inorđević , who had meanwhile become vice world champion. After Serbia remained undefeated in the preliminary round in the Berlin Mercedes-Benz Arena , the selection first lost in the semifinals against Lithuania and then also the “small final” for the bronze medal against final hosts and defending champions France . For the 2015/16 season, Nedović moved after the termination of his current contract within the Spanish league to Andalusia to the Unicaja club from Málaga . The Spanish semi-finalists had been granted another participation in the Euroleague 2015/16 , in which they could again move into the intermediate round of the 16 best European teams. In the 14-game intermediate round, they were eliminated after only four wins.
