The Geratalbrücke Ichtershausen is a 1,121 m long double-track railway overpass on the new Ebensfeld-Erfurt line between the route kilometers 177.754 and 178.875.

The girder bridge is located 15 kilometers south of Erfurt . At the southern end it spans the Gera and the northern end, at the Erfurt motorway junction , in a dragging cut over the federal motorway 71 and the Molsdorf - Ichtershausen district road , which in turn crosses the A 71 (three levels, see picture). The track is about 19 m above the valley floor.

The bridge, including the section along the neighboring sewage treatment plant, is the only one in the 23 km long bundling section of the route, in which the railway line and the A 71 motorway are not 40 m apart.

Construction work began on February 13, 1998. The planned costs were 26 million German marks , and completion was expected in 2000. The structure was completed in 2001. The cost was around 25 million euros.

The bridge can be driven at up to 280 km / h; at the northern end of the bridge (km 179.0) there is a speed change from / to Erfurt to 230 km / h.

Substructure

Cross section of the superstructure

The rectangular up to 15 m high reinforced concrete pillars have a hollow box cross-section and taper to a suit of 70: 1 upwards. A massive round pillar was only placed in the median of the A 71. The longitudinal forces from the superstructure as a result of braking are transferred into the subsoil by a support via a support. The abutments and pillars are based on pile head foundations with large bored piles . The piles have a diameter of 1.5 m and a length of 10 to 20 m.

superstructure

The valley bridge (above) spans both the motorway (below) and the district road (middle).

The superstructure consists of a chain of 24 single-span girders . This enables individual bridge segments to be replaced later. The cross-sectional shape is a single-cell reinforced concrete box with inclined webs, prestressed in the longitudinal direction . In addition, the deck is prestressed in the transverse direction. With a superstructure width of 14.30 m, the spans are 58 m, 53 m, 19 × 44 m, 3 × 58 m. The constant overall height of 4.50 m is relatively large due to the required rigidity so that the deflection remains low.

The bridge in the direction of Ichtershausen is to be partially equipped (construction kilometers 94.520 to 95.050) with a 2.0 m high noise protection wall .

execution

The superstructure was concreted field by field with a feed scaffold. The 44 m long fields took two weeks to build, the longer fields took 2.5 weeks. The scaffolding consisted of a prestressed concrete trough and a protruding nose , which was broken off after the bridge was completed.

The railway line running on the bridge went into operation 16 years after the bridge was completed in December 2017.
