Gerhard Habarta
Gerhard Habarta (born July 1, 1939 in Vienna , Austria ) is an Austrian author , gallery owner and publisher .
life and work
In 1955 Habarta began with youth and educational work and founded the Association of Young Collectors. In 1958 he began working as a gallery owner, exhibition maker, author and publisher. In the years 1966 to 1971 he worked as program director of the art book program of the publishing house of Vienna with book publications also of visionaries , including the first catalog raisonné of prints by Ernst Fuchs and Helo Weis, and monographs of APGütersloh, Fritz Janschka and Helmut gravel.
In 1971 he began working as the publisher of international graphic editions, sculptures and multiples. Through this work he maintained a publishing collaboration with numerous artists of surrealism and fantastic art, including Salvador Dalí (graphics and sculptures), Leonor Fini , Andre Masson , Felix Labisse, Niki de Saint Phalle , Verlon, Rudolf Hausner , Arik Brauer , Ernst Fuchs , Anton Lehmden , Helmut Kies and Wolfgang Hutter .
From 1978 onwards he organized large-scale and museum exhibitions on everyday culture with works of classical modernism in Austria, Germany, France, Belgium and Switzerland, including important works by Pablo Picasso , Henry Moore , Marino Marini and Alfred Hrdlicka . He organized numerous large exhibitions in Austria, Germany, Hungary, France and Switzerland with more than 200 pictures and drawings and more than 1,000 works of the graphic work of Salvador Dalí. Extensive catalogs were published for each of these exhibitions.
Habarta is a co-founder of the Fantastmuseum in Vienna , which has been located in Vienna's Palais Pallfy on Josefsplatz since January 2011 . Today he works as a consultant and curator for the museum. He is also helping to set up the international archive of fantastic artists, which is also located in the Palais Palffy.
Gerhard Habarta lives in Lower Austria .
