Gerhard Hausmann (born September 15, 1922 in Chemnitz ; † June 23, 2015 ) was a German painter , graphic artist and sculptor .

Live and act

Gerhard Hausmann was born in Chemnitz in 1922. After studying mechanical engineering from 1940–1941 at the Academy for Technology in Chemnitz , he did his military service until 1945 in the Navy. Towards the end of the war he was captured. A year later he managed to escape to Hamburg . From 1947 to 1952 he studied at the State Art School Hamburg . He studied art history at the University of Hamburg .

Since 1952 he has worked as a freelance painter, graphic artist and sculptor with a focus on: large groups of pictures, tapestry . On repeated trips to Switzerland , Scandinavia , Italy , southern France , Greece and the Dalmatian coast, drawings and watercolors were created that inspired him to visualize the themes of “Labyrinth” and “Daedalus”. In 1955 and 1956 there were first attempts and work with Dallglas concrete windows. From 1955 to 1965 numerous paraments were created for various churches on behalf of the Hanover regional church office. 1957 followed an exhibition with first works at the construction fair " Interbau " (Berlin).

Hausmann prepared various reports on lighting and spatial planning, e.g. B. for St. Michael (Hildesheim) , St. Blasius (Hannoversch Münden) and the Bremen Cathedral . Essential wall paintings for the Henriettenstiftung (Hanover) were created. He was also involved in the new construction of the district court in Lemgo and the choir of the Thomaskirche in Edendorf ( Itzehoe ). Painting u. He made glass works for the Matthias Church (Groß-Buchholz) , the Holy Trinity Church (Hamburg-St. Georg) , the Basilica of St. Michael (Hildesheim) as well as the Bremer Bank, the Dresdner Bank in Hamburg and Hanover. Altar, altarpiece, cross, baptismal and sacristy mosaic of the Church of St. Laurentius (Nienhagen) are also works of the artist.

From 1947 Hausmann lived and worked in Hamburg.
