Gerhard Wolfgang Dammann (born December 11, 1963 in Oran , Algeria ; † June 20, 2020 in Münsterlingen , Switzerland ; resident in Basel ) was a Swiss psychiatrist , psychologist and psychoanalyst .

Life

Dammann studied medicine , psychology and sociology in Tübingen , Frankfurt am Main , Basel and Paris and graduated with the state examination in medicine (Germany, 1990), a diploma in psychology and a diploma in sociology. From 1986 he was a member of the Catholic riding student association AV Guestfalia Tübingen . From 1990 to 2006 he worked as an assistant and senior physician at the university clinics in Basel, Freiburg im Breisgau, Strasbourg and at the Klinikum rechts der Isar in Munich. In 1996 he was awarded a Dr. med. PhD. He completed further training as a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy ( Bavarian State Medical Association , 1997), as a specialist in psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy (Bavarian State Medical Association, 2000), as a specialist psychologist for clinical psychology and psychotherapy ( FSP ), as a psychoanalyst ( DPV / IPV ) as well as a Master of Business Administration with a focus on health economics at the University of Lüneburg .

From 2006 he was Medical Director of the Psychiatric Clinic in Münsterlingen and Hospital Director of the Thurgau Psychiatric Services, which have been an academic teaching hospital since 2009. He was also a lecturer at the Medical Faculty in Zurich and at the University of St. Gallen. In 2016 he completed his habilitation at the Paracelsus Medical Private University in Salzburg; he was granted the license to teach psychiatry and psychotherapy. From 2014 Gerhard Dammann was honorary professor at the State Medical University of Chernivtsi (Ukraine) (founded in 1944), with which there is a scientific cooperation, and, from 2020, at the Bogomolets National Medical University in Kiev (founded in 1841). He was a member of the Freud Institute Zurich (SGPsa / IPV) and has headed its psychotherapy commission since 2016 and was a member of the board of the Thurgau Medical Association Werthbühlia (founded in 1833) and since 2009 teaching therapist and supervisor for transference- focused psychotherapy (TFP) of the ISTFP. He was a board member of Triaplus AG. Integrated psychiatry in Uri, Schwyz and Zug.

His main focus was the diagnosis and psychotherapy of severe personality disorders , especially borderline and narcissistic personality disorders .

In 2018, Dammann received an honorary doctorate from the Kharkiv National Medical University .

He was Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Schwarzwasserstelz Foundation . With his wife he collected works of art from the field of Art brut and Outsider Art. Dammann died in June 2020 at the age of 56.
