Gerhardt Prussia

Gerhardt Preuschen (born January 22, 1908 in Darmstadt ; † March 22, 2004 in Goslar ) was a German agricultural scientist who is best known for his work on organic agriculture and viticulture .

Live and act

Gerhardt Preuschen was the son of the theologian and philologist Erwin Preuschen . He studied agriculture in Stuttgart-Hohenheim and Berlin as well as mechanical engineering for a few semesters in Darmstadt and Stuttgart .

In 1932 he completed his studies as a qualified farmer and took on consulting tasks in eastern Germany, including in Landsberg an der Warthe and in Eberswalde . In 1935 he started working in agricultural engineering. Developed from East German company relationships, PhD at the Agricultural University in Berlin .

Gerhardt Preuschen joined the SS in 1933 and became a member of the NSDAP in 1937 (member no. 5318725). In 1940 he founded the Institute for Agricultural Labor Science of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society for the Promotion of Science in Breslau , which was moved to Imbshausen in 1945 and transferred to the Max Planck Society in Bad Kreuznach in 1950 as the Institute for Agricultural Work and Technology .

Gerhardt Preuschen was appointed as an adjunct professor at the Institute for Agricultural Economics at the Hohenheim Agricultural University in 1956 . In 1964 he became a member of the Society for the History of Wine , of which he was Vice President from 1969 to 1988. He initiated the publication of Georg Schreiber's book German Wine History. The wine in popular life, cult and economy , which appeared posthumously in 1980 .

Preuschen headed the Max Planck Institute for Agricultural Labor and Technology until his retirement in 1976, when it was closed. After his retirement, Gerhardt Preuschen mainly worked again in the field of organic agriculture. He published several books and was particularly involved in the Ecology & Agriculture Foundation .

Gerhardt Preuschen was married to Marie-Luise Preuschen, b. Schulz rose garden.
