Kretscham
The Kretscham , borrowed from the (reconstructed) Old Sorbian word * krč'ma "Schenke, Kneipe, Krug" (cf. Sorbian korčma , Polish karczma , Czech krčma , late Middle High German kretscheme , Upper Lusatian dialect Kraatschn ), is a village inn or a tavern , often the seat of the dispensing justice thoughtful mayor and court of the village court was (Gerichtskretscham). Usually the locators were given this right.
background
The term Kretscham for a village inn is still common in Upper Lusatia and was also found very often (see below) in the Prussian province of Silesia . The associated host is the Kretzschmar, plural Kretzschmarn. The surnames Kretschmar , Kretschmer and Kretschmann are derived from it. Places with the ending -kretscham are: Dreikretscham , Kretscham-Rothensehma , Kieferkretscham , Peiskretscham , Wasserkretscham and the deserted village Kretscham (Krčma) at Domašín .
