It is derived from krčmář or korčmar ("innkeeper"), which was Germanized to Kretschmar or Kretschmer , and is one of the professional names . Referred to in the late Middle Ages Saxon village Rügen the village brewing Schenk goods as Kretscham or Kretz Cham and their owners as Kretzschmar .
