history

The part of the name kretscham is derived from the Slavic word kŗčma for tavern . The water part refers to the location on Löbauer Wasser. In Wasserkretscham there has always been a sawmill that was operated by water power. Since the Congress of Vienna the border between Prussia and Saxony ran along the Löbauer Wasser , so the place had been divided since 1815.

The southern part of Wasserkretscham always belonged to the Maltitz community , the northern part to the Buchholz community . On July 25, 1952, the Maltitzer part of the Bautzen district and the Buchholz part of the Görlitz-Land district , each in the Dresden district . After the reunification , part of the place was in the Bautzen district and the other part in the Görlitz district. On January 1, 1994, the Buchholz part was incorporated into the municipality of Vierkirchen as part of the incorporation of Buchholz , and the Maltitz part was incorporated into Weissenberg on March 1, 1994 together with Maltitz . During the district reform in August 1994, the Vierkirchen part was assigned to the Lower Silesian Upper Lusatia District, the Weißenberg part came to the former Bautzen district . With the district reform of 2008, the northern part of Wasserkretschams came to the district of Görlitz and the southern part to today's district of Bautzen .
