The Gersbach is a 3.5 km long brook in the Kellerwald in the Waldeck-Frankenberg and Schwalm-Eder districts in Hesse . It is a western and orographically left tributary of the Wälzebach and runs along its entire length in the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park .
course
The Gersbach rises and runs in the eastern part of the Kellerwald. Its source is 360 m above sea level. NHN in the district of Braunau , a southern district of Bad Wildungen in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. It is located on the edge of the forest about 1 kilometer (km) west of the Gershäuser Hof on an eastern slope between the Haardtberg ( 437 m ) and the Lennkopf ( 425 m ).
From there, the stream first flows about 300 meters (m) in a south-easterly direction along a dirt road and then turns north-east. In a long right-hand bend, it then flows about 900 m to the Gershäuser Hof, the former moated castle of Gershausen , where it feeds the moats that are still present today and flows around the estate on both sides. Both dividing arms each flow through a small pond. Shortly before they reunite immediately to the south of the L 3296 country road that passes by the estate, the southern arm feeds another small pond.
Then the Gersbach flows about 800 m along the southern roadside of the L 3296 in an easterly direction, between the Harsch ( 425.1 m ) in the north and the Orthberg ( 447.4 m ) in the south. Shortly before the Rödernhof , the former Gershausen mill, it turns to the southeast, passes the former mill after another 250 m and shortly afterwards flows through another pond, always accompanying the L 3296 to the south. About 100 m below the pond it reaches the Schwalm-Eder district. After around 1 km it turns again to the east and passes under the L 3296 for around 500 m.
300 m downhill from here the Gersbach flows south of the Treisberg ( 311.6 m ) at an altitude of 235 m about 50 m west of the B 485 coming from Bad Zwesten and at this point turning almost at right angles to the north and about 500 m from the western outskirts of Bad West from the left into the Wälzebach approaching from the north along the B 485. This in turn flows into the Schwalm after it has crossed Bad Zwesten and has flowed through under the B 3 .
Catchment area and tributaries
The catchment area of the Gersbach is 4.537 km² . Its tributaries are all small streams a few hundred meters long.
