Live and act

In the early 1960s he took on assistant stage design in Bayreuth , Munich and Cologne, before becoming a stage designer in 1964. He then supervised performances on smaller theaters such as in Oberhausen (1960s), Bamberg (1970s) and Stuttgart (1980s). Since 1969, Fleischer also worked as a production designer for television, for the first ten years under the name of Gert B. Fleischer.

After changing his name to Gert B. Venzky (1979), he had his first major success in 1981 with the then much discussed ZDF multi-part series Death of a Student . Venzky's most important directors included Claus Peter Witt , Franz Seitz junior , Eberhard Itzenplitz , Michael Verhoeven and Wilm ten Haaf . Until the early 2000s, the Munich-based designer designed the sets for both individual productions and series, but he also oversaw the two satirical programs Notes from the Province and Windshield Wipers with Dieter Hildebrandt .

Despite intensive television work, Venzky remained connected to the theater. At the age of 65, he retired from television architecture and from then on only worked as an outfitter on the stage.
