Gert Wendelborn (born July 13, 1935 in Rostock ; full name: Gert Günther Joachim Wendelborn ) is a German Protestant - Lutheran theologian and former politician ( CDU of the GDR ).

Life

Gert Wendelborn, from a shipyard worker family, became a member of the FDJ in 1949 and studied theology at the University of Rostock from 1953 to 1958 . After a doctorate in Rostock (1964) and habilitation at the University of Jena (1969), he was a professor for ecumenical church history and applied theology from 1969 to 1977, and from 1977 adjunct professor for ecumenics and new church history at the Wilhelm-Pieck-Universität Rostock. His appointment in 1969 took place without the participation of the Rostock Theological Faculty "in a unilateral act by the Ministry" and was "a nasty surprise" for the Faculty. In the summer of 1989 he became full professor of church history, contrary to the proposal of the faculty; In 1992 he was dismissed by an honorary commission after his Stasi work had been checked.

Wendelborn was a member of the Christian Peace Conference (CFK) and worked in the first All-Christian Peace Assembly (ACFV) convened by it in  1961 and in the II. ACFV in 1964 in Prague .

He has published academic papers on Joachim von Fiore (1974), Franziskus von Assisi (1977), Martin Luther (1983) and Bernhard von Clairvaux (1993).

politics

He had been a member of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany in the GDR since 1962, and later a member of the main board of the CDU.

Wendelborn was a member of the district assembly , then a member of the Volkskammer of the GDR in the 7th electoral term (1976–1981) , 8th electoral term (1981–1986) and 9th electoral term (1986–1990) ; he was no longer a member of the 10th electoral term in 1990 after the first free election . Since 1981 he was a member of the Committee for Foreign Affairs of the People's Chamber.

He was the district vice-chairman of the National Front . In addition to his involvement in the World Peace Council , he was Vice President of the Peace Council of the GDR , of which he had been a member since 1966.

Unofficial employee of the State Security

Wendelborn signed a declaration of commitment on August 12, 1959 and from 1960 was run by the Ministry for State Security as IMS Heinz Graf . Until 1989 he reported regularly and in detail, according to the church historian Gert Haendler, “without any consideration” about the CDU and fellow faculty.
