Gert Winkler ( September 5, 1942 in Linz - January 6, 2016 ) was an Austrian film producer and director of commercials who lived in Vienna .

The Winkler, who also worked as a creative director, copywriter, conceptionist and, in the meantime, also worked as a photographer and screenwriter, achieved fame primarily through his significant contribution to the development of the first German-language Zeitgeist magazine WIENER . He has been an honorary member of the Creativ Club Austria since 2012 .

First films and photography

After breaking off his law studies at the University of Vienna , Winkler hired the Bremen shipping company Schlüssel in 1964 and went to America as a machine cleaner on a cargo ship . Back in Austria, he wrote his first short film Wladimir Nixon (director: Michael Pilz) in 1969 with Lui Dimanche in the lead role, which won him the City of Vienna's script award. This first success brought him various assignments as a screenwriter for the ORF such as 1971 Das Lied von Hofer , directed by Rainer C. Ecke or Damenwahl , directed by Franz Novotny in 1972. At the same time, Winkler was in charge of the experimental architecture of Haus-Rucker-Co and as a photographer Coop Himmelb (l) au .

advertising

In 1975 Winkler applied to work as a photographer at the advertising agency GGK in Vienna, but was ultimately hired as creative director and, after a brief guest appearance at GGK in Düsseldorf, where he was responsible for the relaunch of the cigarette brand Harvest 23 , with the expansion of the Austrian branch of Agency network. As the first art buyer at GGK Vienna, he ordered Caroline Seidler, with whom he also placed Creation / Production at Falter Verlag.

WIENER - magazine for zeitgeist

In 1979 Gert Winkler founded the first so-called Zeitgeist magazine WIENER together with Michael Satke and Günther Lebisch . But after just four editions, the project failed and WIENER was re-founded in May 1980 - this time with Michael Beran and Lo Breier as art directors and Rudolph J. Wojta as editor-in-chief, but again with Gert Winkler as the creative engine.

Commercial

In 1985 Winkler won Austria's first and so far only lion in the “ Advertising Film ” category at the International Advertising Festival in Cannes with his commercial for Austria Tabak MEN (director: Franz Novotny) for GGK Vienna . After his successful campaign for the SPÖ Chancellor candidate Franz Vranitzky for the National Council election, he ended his advertising career a year later to set up Tale Filmproduktion (named after the owner of the trendy restaurant Salzamt) together with Ernst Mican . Since 1986 Gert Winkler worked as a commercial film director and producer.
