Society for Intercultural German Studies
The Society for Intercultural German Studies (GiG) is an international research community of Germanists , German teachers and representatives of other subjects and professions who are active in the field of teaching German-speaking cultures.
aims
The aim of the GiG is to use the intercultural exchange between its members and their different cultural starting positions as an enrichment of the scientific and educational discourse of German studies. The basis for this is the knowledge that the German language and culture, like any other, has developed in contact with and differentiation from other cultures and must therefore be viewed from both an internal and an external perspective. In addition, in view of the fact that around 20 million people worldwide learn the German language, the GiG wants to embed this interest theoretically and practically in an intercultural context. Another focus is the promotion of young talent through events for further education and training.
organization structure
- The board of directors manages day-to-day business and represents GiG internally and externally.
- The extended board is responsible for the promotion of young talent and supports the board in the planning and implementation of events.
- The scientific advisory board advises the board of directors, especially when evaluating contributions to planned publications.
- The general assembly meets at least every four years, elects the board, determines the membership fee and gives suggestions for future events.
The current president is Gesine Lenore Schiewer . Honorary members are Ulrich Müller , Alois Wierlacher and Ernest Hess-Lüttich.
