Giana Alexandrovna Romanova

Giana Alexandrovna Romanova ( Russian Гиана Александровна Романова ., English transcription Giana Romanova, born Chernova - Чернова - Chernova * 10. March 1954 in Sjatry , Rajon Tsivilsk , Chuvashia ) is a former Soviet athlete . The middle- and long-distance runner became European champion in the 1500 meter run in 1978 .

Romanowa won gold with the Soviet team at the World Cross Country Championships in 1976, 1977 and 1980 , and in 1979 the team received silver. In the individual ranking, bronze was her greatest success in 1977, and in 1980 she took fourth place. At the European Athletics Championships in Prague in 1978 , she finished fifth in the 3,000-meter run in 8: 45.7 minutes . Five days later she won the final over 1500 meters in 3: 59.01 min just ahead of the Romanian Natalia Mărăşescu . Giana Romanowa won two Soviet championships: in 1976 she won the 3000 meter title, and in 1979 she was successful over 1500 meters.

Giana Romanowa is 1.60 m tall and weighed 48 kg at competition times.
