Gianfranco Leoncini (born September 25, 1939 in Rome , † April 5, 2019 in Chivasso ) was an Italian football player .

Career

In the club

The midfielder Gianfranco Leoncini spent most of his playing career at Juventus , where he played from 1958 to 1970. With Juve he won three Italian championships and twice the Coppa Italia , in 1964/65 he failed with the old lady in the final of the fair cup with 0: 1 at Ferencváros Budapest . Overall, Leoncini completed 379 games for the Italian record champions, in which he scored 25 goals.

In the summer of 1970 Gianfranco Leoncini moved to Atalanta Bergamo . With the Lombard club, he was promoted to Serie A straight away . After an interlude at Mantova in the season 1972/73 ended Leoncini at the end of the 1973/74 season, his professional career at Atalanta, which is now back in Serie B played.

In the national team

Gianfranco Leoncini played two games for the Italian national soccer team . He made his debut on June 22, 1966 in a 3-0 win against Argentina . Shortly afterwards, he was also part of Edmondo Fabbri's squad for the 1966 World Cup in England and played the group game against the Soviet Union . After the World Cup from the Italians in the preliminary round, Leoncini was never called back to the Azzurri squad.
