Gidget Gein (real name Bradley Stewart ; born September 11, 1969 in Hollywood , Florida , † October 8, 2008 in Burbank , California ) was an American musician and artist , best known for his work in the alternative metal band Marilyn Manson has been. His stage name is made up of Gidget , a teen film and television heroine of the 1950s and 1960s, and the last name of the murderer Ed Gein .

Life

Gidget Gein was born the son of a teacher and a police officer. After his parents separated in his childhood, Gein developed his very own character, formed from the late 1970s and its cultural objects, which later became his trademark. At that time, a Catholic priest taught him to play the guitar.

Music career

Marilyn Manson

As in the official autobiography The Long Hard Road Out of Hell by Marilyn Manson is to be read, Marilyn Manson and Gidget Gein met in a nightclub called Kitchen Club in Miami. Manson describes Gein as "a feminine-looking guy who looked like Crispin Glover and wore dyed pink hair, a mini skirt and a leopard skin suit". At this point he was still playing guitar in a local metal band.

After the two became friends, Manson persuaded Gein to quit his band and brought him to join his band, which at the time was still performing in local clubs in Fort Lauderdale under the name Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids . He replaced the first bassist Olivia Newton Bundy , who was only in the band for two shows.

During his time in Marilyn Manson he shaped the image of the band decisively. Geins influences from the cultural objects of the late 1970s are also reflected in the provocative appearances and flyers . Since he brought the drugs into the band, he got his own problems with addiction quite early on. He had to be hospitalized three times after collapsing from heroin overdoses or falling off stage during a show. Realizing that Gein was spending almost more time tending to his drug problem than rehearsing for gigs with the band, he decided to kick Gidget Gein out. On Christmas Eve 1993 - before the release of the first album Portrait of an American Family - he received a letter from the manager of the band, in which it said that his achievements were no longer needed. He was replaced by Jeordie White , who had already represented Gein during his stays in the hospital or in a rehabilitation clinic .

That Marilyn Manson appreciated him despite parting ways, was noticed when Gein got a guest appearance in Manson's video for the single "(s) AINT" in 2004.

Dali Gaggers

After being kicked out of Marilyn Manson, he founded the band Dali Gaggers , which existed as a side project when Gein was still in the band and which was based on the earlier style of Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids. The flyers, lyrics and propaganda that were distributed for the band showed that Gein still had a great influence on the band in the days of Marilyn Manson and had a decisive influence on them.

The band released the first and only album Confessions of a Spooky Kid , which had only moderate success in the music scene. Shortly after the album was released, the band broke up and Gein returned to his home state of Florida.

death

Gidget Gein, then 39, was found dead on October 9, 2008 in his apartment in Burbank, Los Angeles. The cause of death was apparently a heroin overdose.
