Winkel is a district of the town of Gifhorn in the Gifhorn district in Lower Saxony . It is located in the southwest of the city center and is surrounded by large forest and heather areas (Gifhorner Heide or Gifhorner Switzerland).

Winkel is a district that was incorporated into the city of Gifhorn in the course of the Lower Saxony regional reform on March 1, 1974 together with the formerly independent communities of Kästorf , Gamsen , Wilsche and Neubokel .

The Heide -Dichter Hermann Lons held occasionally from 1904 for nature watching and hunting purposes in angle. He wrote literature that takes place in and around the town. In his story Haidbilder (from 1913), chapter Das Taube Tal , Löns mentions the town of Winkel. He tells a story from the Thirty Years' War that is said to have taken place in a valley nearby.
