The Gilgbach , also called Rauchel , is a fifteen and a half kilometer long stream in the Vogelsberg .

The Gilgbach rises in the forest near the village of Feldkrücken (part of the Ulrichstein municipality ), 2 km away from this, at an altitude of about 700 meters.

On its way it flows down the mountains through the Gilgbachtal and passes Schmittmühle , the Langwasser and Gilgtalhöfe, the village of Bobenhausen II and the Heuzenmühle . Now the stream with Höckersdorf has reached the area of ​​the municipality of Mücke .

Past the former dairy near Groß-Eichen, the Gilgbach merges with the Streitbach before Ilsdorf and now flows as the Ilsbach near Flensungen into the Seenbach, which flows into the Ohm near Merlau .

Catchment area

The 19.62 km² catchment area of ​​the Gilgbach lies in the Hohen , Unteren and Vorderen Vogelsberg and is drained to the North Sea via the Ilsbach, the Seenbach , the Ohm , the Lahn and the Rhine .
