About this picture

Mücke is a municipality in the Vogelsbergkreis in central Hesse .

The place name comes from the Celtic vocabulary. It is derived from "much" or "mack", which means something like wet and swampy. The name Mücke was first mentioned in documents in connection with this region in 1482 in a tax list of the parish of Merlau. Before the regional reform of 1972 there was no place with the place name "Mücke", but a train station Mücke on the Gießen - Fulda line ( Vogelsbergbahn ) and a postal place name "Mücke".

geography

Geographical location

Mücke is located at an altitude of 200 to 350 meters in the northwestern Lower Vogelsberg on the upper reaches of the Ohm , a tributary of the Lahn , as well as the southern Ohm tributary Seenbach and its tributary Ilsbach . The district of Atzenhain is located on the Lumda, which flows west to the Lahn, on the so-called Lumda Plateau , which connects to the west and on which Bernsfeld is also located.

Neighboring communities

Mücke borders in the north on the town of Homberg (Ohm) , in the northeast on the municipality of Gemünden , in the east on the municipality Feldatal and the town of Ulrichstein , in the south on the town of Laubach ( district of Gießen ) and in the west on the city of Grünberg (district To water).

Community structure

The community of Mücke has existed in its current size since December 31, 1971 as an amalgamation of originally twelve independent communities. They now form the following districts:

Flensungen and Merlau form the core community of Mücke. The Mücke district with a local advisory board and mayor was set up for the core community . In addition, there are separate local districts for each of the earlier municipalities, the boundaries of which follow the previous district boundaries.

With 2,800 inhabitants, Nieder-Ohmen is by far the largest district. The district of Ilsdorf is a specialty. Until the regional reform, part of today's district of Ilsdorf was in the old district of Alsfeld , while the other part of the village belonged to the district of Gießen as Solms-Ilsdorf. The reason was that Ilsdorf was formerly part of Upper Hesse in the Landgraviate of Hessen-Darmstadt , while Solms-Ilsdorf was owned by the Counts of Solms . This division is still visible today, as the place still has two cemeteries.

The geographical center of Hesse is located in today's Mücker district of Flensungen.

history

In September 1583, Landgrave Wilhelm IV of Hessen-Kassel and the new Archbishop of Mainz, Wolfgang von Dalberg , signed the Merlau Treaty in Merlau . In it they agreed on border conflicts that had long been smoldering between Kurmainz and the Landgraviate, whereby almost all of the remaining Mainz possessions in northern Hesse finally fell to the Landgraviate, but Hesse-Kassel gave up its claims in Eichsfeld .

Church building

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the voluntary merger of the communities Flensungen and Merlau with Kirschgarten took place on September 1, 1970 to form the new community Mücke. On October 1, 1971, the communities Höckersdorf, Ruppertenrod and Sellnrod were incorporated with Schmitten. On December 31, 1971, the municipalities of Atzenhain, Bernsfeld, Groß-Eichen, Ilsdorf and Wettsaasen were incorporated as well as the merger with the municipalities of Nieder-Ohmen and Ober-Ohmen to form the new municipality of Mücke.
