Location of the municipality of Wartenberg in the Vogelsberg district | ||
Wartenberg is a municipality in the east of the Vogelsbergkreis in central Hesse .
geography
The community is located on the eastern foothills of the Vogelsberg , about 17 kilometers west of Fulda and 3 kilometers southeast of the city of Lauterbach (Hesse) in a wooded low mountain range. The area is located at an altitude between 248 and 494 meters above sea level . The forest portion of the district area is 22.05 km² (= 56 percent). The Lauter flows through the community and connects with the Altefeld to Schlitz in Bad Salzschlirf . The main wind directions in Wartenberg are north-east and south-west. In periods of high pressure and weak winds, primarily in autumn and winter, the valleys tend to form fog. Especially through the densely wooded mountain slopes there is an evening influx of clean and fresh forest air, which ensures pleasant cooling, especially after hot and humid days. The " Hoher Vogelsberg Nature Park " begins in the immediate vicinity .
Wartenberg borders the city of Schlitz in the north, the municipalities of Bad Salzschlirf and Großenlüder (both districts of Fulda ) in the east, the city of Herbstein in the south and the city of Lauterbach in the west .
The community consists of the two districts Angersbach and Landenhausen .
With 4,075 residents with main residence , Wartenberg is the third largest municipality in the Vogelsberg district today . The population consists of 2,019 females and 2,056 males. The population is distributed among the districts as follows:
District | Residents |
---|---|
Angersbach | 2,692 |
Landenhausen | 1,383 |
total | 4,075 |
history
September 20, 812, the date of the first documentary mention in Codex Eberhardi von Angersbach and Landenhausen , is considered to be the official beginning of local history, although the beginning of settlement in this area goes back much further into pre-Christian times. Wartenberg is therefore, if one assumes the year 812, almost 1,200 years old. The names of Heinrich von Landenhausen and his son Herold von Landenhausen emerge from a Fulda certificate from 1114 .
In the 12th century the von Landenhausen family still existed. The fact that the gender of Angersbach is mentioned in the same document also suggests that the gentlemen von Landenhausen and von Angersbach were close. In the 12th and 13th centuries, the two districts were subject to the dominion of the noble family von Wartenberg , whose castle was built in the years around 1220 by Friedrich von Angersbach (called Friedrich von Wartenberg from 1232) on the "Wartenbachhügel" in Angersbach. However, the fortification was destroyed in 1265 by troops from Bertho II von Leibolz , Abbot of Fulda, who fought a collegiate feud with the bailiff Count von Ziegenhain , whose subordinates included the Wartenbergers. The von Wartenberg family died out towards the end of the 13th century. Through marital connections, the property of the Wartenbergers came with all rights to the Lords of Eisenbach. From this point on, the Riedesel knight dynasty determined and worked in the region for centuries.
In the 18th and 19th centuries, many people emigrated from the region.
After the Second World War , which also claimed many victims in the two villages, the main task was to restructure village life. Above all, hundreds of displaced persons from the former German eastern regions were integrated into village life.
The municipality of Wartenberg was created as part of the regional reform in Hesse on August 1, 1972 by state law from the previously independent municipalities of Angersbach and Landenhausen. The first official mayor of the new municipality was Karl Hans Roth from Angersbach. The Wartenberg castle ruins gave Angersbach and Landenhausen their names after their merger and, in 1978, the coat of arms. In June 2007 the parish celebrated its 35th anniversary.

The branch churches Angersbach and Landenhausen belong to the parish of St. Peter and Paul Lauterbach-Schlitz (until 2008: St. Michael and St. Bonifatius ), which is assigned to the diocese of Mainz . The Catholic branch in Angersbach was given its own church building on December 16, 1962. Furthermore, a Catholic branch church in the form of a modern chapel was built in Landenhausen in 1973 .
Around 500 people belong to other denominations or currents or are non-denominational .

Outdoor swimming pool
Years later, the construction of the district youth home and tent camp was taken as an opportunity to build an outdoor swimming pool in Landenhausen for the young people and the population. This developed into an important part of the community, which is adjacent to the sports center with two football fields, a gym and a riding facility. The swimming pool is frequented by the camp, by the community population and by many people from the area and beyond. The swimming pool includes a swimmer's pool with diving blocks, a non-swimmer's pool and a children's pool.

Economy and Infrastructure
Business location
With the development of a Wartenberg industrial park in the Angersbach district, the community has largely developed from an original agricultural structure to a commercial location for companies. The commercial structure is made up of companies from a wide variety of industries. As a result, industrial manufacturing companies from the wood processing sector, as well as companies from the electronics, mechanical engineering and IT sectors, settled here. In addition, wholesalers and retailers as well as craft businesses from a wide variety of sectors and service companies are represented. Over 200 companies are currently registered in Wartenberg. Essentially, these are geared towards the private services , craft and retail sectors .
A bypass is intended to relieve both districts of the heavy through traffic of the B 254 in the long term. The east and south-east industrial areas and commercial building sites in Angersbach will then be accessed directly via an exit from the new bypass. In a regional comparison, Wartenberg scores extremely favorably in terms of the price level of commercial building space. This is brought about primarily by a less costly and therefore advantageous planning and implementation of the area development, which in turn was favored by the flat geographical area and the soil conditions in the industrial area .
BALZER Angelgeräte GmbH should be mentioned as a nationally known company with its headquarters in Wartenberg-Angersbach , whose areas of activity are the development, manufacture and sale of fishing tackle and sporting goods.
traffic
The community is on the federal highway 254 , which leads via Alsfeld to Fulda. Wartenberg can be reached via the B 254 from the federal highways 5 and 7 . The Frankfurt airport is 129 km from Wartenberg removed.
- Via the Angersbach train station, which is on the Gießen - Fulda railway line (see Vogelsbergbahn ),
- there is access to the ICE network of Deutsche Bahn AG at Fulda station .
Wartenberg (Angersbach and Landenhausen) is served by the lines VB-26 and VB-28 of the Verkehrsgesellschaft Oberhessen mbH and the regional bus route 393 of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund GmbH (RMV).
